Estate Planning
The purpose of Estate Planning is to:
- give clients control of their property while they are alive and well;
- protect client assets from the threat of lawsuits and creditors;
- implement a plan to provide for the client and their loved ones in the event the client becomes disabled;
- empower the client to give what they have, to whom they want, when they want;
- minimize the impact of taxes, professional fees and court costs.
At Gokal Law we help our clients keep their personal and financial affairs in order.
The Gokal Law Approach
The Design Meeting: We begin by getting to know our clients. Every family is unique and every client walks in our door with different concerns and issues they need our help to address. The first attorney client meeting or the “design meeting” is an opportunity for the attorney to listen to the client and learn about the client’s unique situation and to collaborate with the client in designing a rough plan.
After the design meeting, we get to work perfecting the plan. If needed, we will work closely with the client’s CPA, Financial Advisors and other financial professionals to make sure the plan works as conceptualized. Further attorney-client meetings may be conducted on an as needed basis. We then get to work drafting the document needed to memorialize the plan.
The Signing Meeting: At this meeting we review the final plan and the client signs the trust, will, and other necessary documents created specifically for the client.
90 Day Funding Meeting: A large percentage estate plans will fail because people do no not take the proper steps necessary to fund the trust by transferring title of property to the trust. We prevent trust from failing for this reason, by funding the trust on the client’s behalf. We take the lead on transferring title of all real property, bank accounts, and insurance policies so that the client can rest assured their plan will work.
Estate Plan Effectiveness Program: We expect our client to live long and prosperous lives. During the course of their lives clients will likely experience major life changing events including births, deaths, marriages, and divorces. Furthermore, as our clients accumulate wealth their potential tax exposure may also drastically change. We believe it is vitally important to the success of the plan for client’s to be able to freely access their attorney. When a client engages Gokal Law for estate planning, they are automatically enrolled for one year in our Estate Plan Effectiveness Program. Clients are given access unlimited telephone/email access to their attorney and may freely make modifications to their trust as their circumstances change.
Proper estate planning requires a long term relationship with their trusted family advisor.
